A fantastic view as two RAF Hawks marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of World Water Speed record holder Donald Campbell CBE with a Flyover of Coniston Water. Hawk aircraft from IV (AC) Squadron based at RAF Valley flew over a small ceremony that took place on Coniston Water near to where he died in his jet-powered Bluebird boat. Today, 58 years ago, Donald Campbell attempted to set a water speed record in the iconic Bluebird K7. Tragically, at 330mph, the Bluebird K7 took off and somersaulted, fatally disintegrating as it crashed back into the water. Our condolences to Campbell's loved ones. Bluebird is unveiled by Glenridding pier on the 70th anniversary of Donald Campbell’s first World Water Speed Record on Ullswater, reaching an astonishing 202.32 mph on 23 July 1955.
