BARN OWL BABIES: MDC staff monitor barn owl nest boxes around the state and this video is from one in Barton County taken about 10 days ago. Chicks hatch in the order they were laid so you see various sizes. Barn owls do not “hoot” like other owl species. Instead, they hiss and click their beaks to ward off predators and make raspy calls. They should be gone from the nest box later this month. Barn owls are cavity nesters so landowners can build barn owl boxes to invite owls to their property. |
