While the theory is unlikely to be true, more Stranger Things content is indeed coming. Netflix is releasing a documentary about the making of season 5 on January 12 2026, which is a far more realistic follow-up to the platform’s biggest series ever after its feature-length finale.
Nicknamed 'Conformity Gate,' the conspiracy theory rabbit hole goes deep but ultimately leads nowhere.
Conformity Gate comes as " Stranger Things " released its final episode on Dec. 31. The finale left some fans disappointed and wanting more. And Conformity Gate believers think that an additional episode will show the current finale was just a fake-out and that the beloved main characters didn't defeat Vecna after all.
Most obviously, many fans have broken out into repeated speculation about the enigmatic fate of Millie Bobby Brown 's psychic-powered Eleven. While some believe she perished in the Upside Down, others fervently agree with Mike's theory that she faked her death and disappeared in order to ensure her friends' futures.
“Stranger Things” was created by Matt and Ross Duffer and is produced by Upside Down Pictures and 21 Laps Entertainment. Set in the fall of 1987, the final season follows a group of teens, and a few of their parents, as they set out to end Vecna’s reign once and for all. All episodes of Season 5 are now streaming on Netflix.
