May’s flower moon rose in twilight on Friday, setting the stage for a rare second full moon — a blue moon — later in the month.
The moon was hundred percent illuminated at 1:23 p.m. EDT (1723 GMT) on May 1 as the lunar disk appeared opposite the sun in the sky.
This year, the month of May will begin and end with a full moon, making it the only month of 2026 to do so.
